ICT ADVOCACY

According to Learning Partnership Organization, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can sustain or deepen the power imbalance between men and women, rich and poor, the North and South. Those unfamiliar with ICT – its use, making, or deployment – do not reap its rewards and are unable to compete successfully. Information and Communication Technology had contributed several advantages and disadvantages in our society today. An advantage of ICT is anyone can access it anytime, anywhere. A disadvantage of ICT is that it creates a gap between our family and friend relationships, personal beliefs, focus and attention and many more. If people learn how to use ICT correctly, then it would be most likely become more helpful in our lives today. It will produce work faster and efficiently.

ICT had been a medium for raising social issues or concerns such as same-sex marriage, poverty, corruption, and a whole lot more. It had been a habit of people to post or to express their insights and opinions about the different events that happen today. Social media sites had been a medium in which people use for expressing what they want to tell the audience. The effect of ICT being a medium of expression had made information to spread faster. In just one click, hundreds or even thousands can view the content. For example, a senatorial candidate had expressed his stand or insight about same-sex marriage which he is not favor with had been posted on social media sites. The information spread in just minutes and people had been reacting negatively or against him quickly. He then posts a video of himself apologizing to the public or audience about his statement. Even in that scenario, the widespread of ICT is evident. It had been faster since it was first invented or used in the past decades. ICT helped to address and solve social issues by connecting different people in a same stand or argument. Those people would express the needs to solve the issue.

In my opinion, ICT had given a huge contribution in our social concerns. People learn how to be united and to fight what they believe in. In expressing arguments about a social issue, it brings people together to fight for their own stand. They promote or show their right to express what they truly believe in. ICT helps individuals become independent and aware of the different events in our society. It enables most of the people to participate and react also on what others say about the topic. ICT also helps the communication process become faster due to the different applications and social media sites that enables individuals to interact and communicate easily.

In conclusion, ICT had contributed several advantages and disadvantages in our society today. It allows us to communicate efficiently and quickly with the use of different social media sites, widens our understanding and insights about a certain topic and helps individuals to freely express their own opinions or arguments. Using ICT correctly would help us come together as one community for the betterment of our world.
